The second stage of the attack on Amir Kabir University’s students has begun. Ahmad Ghasaban, Nariman Mostafavi, Mehdi Mashayekhi and Abbas Hakimzadeh have been arrested.

According to Amir Kabir University’s students’ newsletter, on the morning of Tuesday 24 February, following an attack by Intelligence Ministry agents on present and former members of the Islamic Society of Amir Kabir University (AKU), a number of students were arrested.

So far Ahmad Ghasaban, Nariman Mostafavi and Mehdi Mashayekhi, all three members of the Islamic Society of the University, as well as Abbas Hakimzadeh, a member of the Central Council of Office for Fostering Unity [the largest pro-reform student group] and a former member of the Islamic Society of the University, have been arrested. There is no information about the situation of some of the other students who have been arrested. Intelligence Ministry agents arrested them after violent assaults and have refused to answer any questions by the families of the students. All enquiries about the condition or wellbeing of their children have been fruitless.

Considering that on 23 February, despite the manoeuvres that the authorities of AKU had made in preparation for the project of re-burying the war dead, the students of the University protested at this act political act - thus enraging the security forces. During the first stage over 70 students were arrested.

It should be remembered that Hossein Tarkashavand, Majid Tavakoli, Kurosh Daneshyar and Esmail Salmanpoor are the other four AKU students who were arrested a month ago and are still being held by the authorities.
