Yesterday a newly formed Moroccan Marxist group was publicly launched on the website www.marxy.com. The group, called the Communist League of Action, brings together students and young workers from different towns in the country. Some of its leading members have a record of struggle in the communist movement in Morocco going back to the early 1990s, but most of the comrades of the Communist League of Action are young people. They come from the "mouvement basiste", the rank and file movement of the legendary National Union of Students (UNEM) which fought a heroic battle against the dictatorship of Hassan II and as a result was brutally repressed and then illegalised by the regime. Logo of the Communist League of Action The Communist League of Action has published a transitional programme and a statement of principles, their political calling cards, on www.marxy.com. These documents will be published in English soon. These two documents are the result of a period of discussion in their ranks together with a representative of the International Marxist Tendency to which the group belongs. One of the leaders of the group commented yesterday: "This is a historic day for us and also for the International Marxist Tendency. Nothing like this has been done before in Morocco or in the Arab world! We will remember this day." This statement is right. The launching of a communist group in the Arab world with a transitional program and such a clear political profile is a very significant step forward. It is already attracting a growing interest within the communist movement in the country and in the Arab world - not the least amongst the Palestinian activists together with the Lebanese people who are at this very moment suffering under a storm of steel and fire unleashed against them by the brutal ruling class of Israel. Our comrades of the Communist League of Action have explained that the only solution to the national oppression in the area and the division of the region, as well as to the misery and exploitation of the poor masses is a socialist revolution. No other force is doing this at the moment. All other forces attempt to find a solution within the confines of the rotten capitalist system. The situation in the Middle East can seem hopeless. The night seems to be very dark. But as the saying goes: "The darker the night, the brighter the star". This star, still a little star, has started to shine with the launching of the Communist League of Action. All the comrades of the International Marxist Tendency convey our warmest greetings to the comrades of the Communist League of Action. Together we will win! Long live the World Socialist Revolution!
