Belgium: workers feel brunt of industrial recession | Unions have no strategy beyond ‘social dialogue’ On 16 September over ten thousand workers and trade union activists marched in Brussels against closures by Belgium’s last automobile manufacturer. In July, Audi’s announcement that it would downsize its factory met with an angry reaction among the workers. Two months later it announced the plant’s final closure with 4,000 direct jobs and 5,000 indirect, outsourced jobs to be lost. Given the magnitude of the closure the trade union response has been mild.
Ukraine has lost: but the bloodshed continues The US has just announced another $8 billion tranche of deadly aid to prolong the war in Ukraine. Even though it has long been clear that Ukraine has lost, a section of the western imperialists are determined to fight to the last drop of Ukrainian blood. Meanwhile, Zelensky, for his own political reasons, like a gambler doubling down, has opened a new, bloody front in Kursk.
Britain: Labour conference 2024 – a harbinger of storms to come Starmer’s government has been one of crisis since day one – rocked by riots, rebellions, and scandals. All of this overshadowed this year’s party conference, spoiling the celebrations that the Labour leaders were expecting. But worse is yet to come.
Germany: Free Palestine! Hands off Alyona and Leonard! For almost a year, millions around the world have taken to the streets in order to fight against the Israeli genocide in Gaza. The imperialists and warmongers have been fighting against this mobilisation from the very first minute. In Europe and the USA, demonstrations in solidarity with Palestine have been prohibited, activists have been persecuted by police or suspended from their jobs, pro-Palestinian speakers have been banned from stating their opinion publicly, and the movement has been deprived from using necessary meeting rooms. Our comrades are also affected by this repression.
Britain: the Zionist-Blairite alliance – Jewish Chronicle conspiracy exposed Recent revelations have highlighted the pernicious role played by the Jewish Chronicle in spreading lies on behalf of the Zionist lobby – including the part this newspaper played, in league with the Blairites, in the anti-Corbyn smear campaign.
Lunacy in London, or Starmer’s Washington disaster “‘Curiouser and curiouser!’ Cried Alice (she was so much surprised, that for the moment she quite forgot how to speak good English).” (Lewis Carol, Alice in Wonderland)
Are we facing World War III? As I write these lines, the headlines of the newspapers are dominated by the shock announcement that Russia would be “at war” with the United States and its allies if they lift restrictions on Ukraine’s use of long-range western missiles for the purpose of deep strikes on Russian territory.
The German catastrophe of 1923 In the summer of 1923, Germany found itself in the grip of an intense revolutionary ferment. But this historic opportunity for the working class to seize power was squandered, with devastating implications, not only for Germany, but for the course of the world socialist revolution. In this article, marking the hundredth anniversary of the dramatic failure of the German Revolution in October 1923, Tatjana Pinetzki explains how this situation emerged, the mistakes of the leadership, and the impact of these events on world history.
France: mobilise against Barnier, Macron and Le Pen! After seven weeks of delays and a series of ‘consultations’, French President Macron announced yesterday the appointment of Michel Barnier as Prime Minister from the traditional centre-right Les Republicains (LR), who came fourth in legislative elections where the left-wing New Popular Front (NFP) won the most seats.
Alan Woods' 'History of Philosophy' – now available in Italian! We are very excited to announce the release of the Italian edition of History of Philosophy, a Marxist Perspective, by our editor-in-chief, Alan Woods. We congratulate our Italian comrades on producing this translation, which has made this important text accessible to an entirely new audience.
France: for a general mobilisation! As this issue of Revolution goes to press, Macron has still not named the next occupant of the Hôtel Matignon. He simply dismissed the New Popular Front’s (NFP) proposal out of hand. But, from now on, the identity of the next Prime Minister is of little importance when it comes to analysing the political situation and its prospects.
Protests against Rio Tinto mine rock Serbia! Recently, Serbia has once again been shaken by mass protests that brought tens of thousands to the streets. This is round two of the fight against Rio Tinto, a notorious multinational mining company that is trying to start operations in the west of the country. This is also the sixth time in the last eight years that mass protests against the regime of Aleksandar Vučić have been organised in Serbia.
Who blew up Nord Stream? The mysterious sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines has all the elements of a Hollywood crime drama: conspiracy, cover-up – and betrayal. A new series of revelations from the German police, published in the American press, purport to blow the case wide open. But when it comes to the Ukraine War, where lies have played an enormous role, we can accept nothing at face value.

Britain: barbarism on the streets – mobilise to smash the far right! Far-right rioting has spread across Britain, with fascist gangs launching pogroms against Muslim and Asian communities. Appeals for ‘calm’ will not suffice. To eradicate this scourge, organised workers and youth must take militant mass action.
